How to tell if an online store is trustworthy (including ours)

Seven quick checks to run before you hand any website your money.

Products mentioned in this article

We named our shop after trust, so we think you should check us the same way you'd check any other store. Here are the questions we'd ask before buying from a website we didn't know.

Seven quick checks

  1. Is there a real street address and a phone number? Call it. Ours is +1 313-565-0220.
  2. Does the price look too good to be true? Big-brand items at 80% off usually are.
  3. Are the shipping costs and return policy written down before checkout?
  4. Does checkout use a secure, known payment provider instead of asking for card details in a plain form?
  5. Are reviews detailed and varied, or all five stars with the same wording?
  6. Do the product photos match the description, including size and model?
  7. Is the website address spelled correctly in your browser bar?

Protect the device you shop on

Safe shopping starts with a safe computer and phone. Norton 360 Deluxe and McAfee Total Protection both warn you about risky websites and include identity monitoring.

Gift cards: buy from the source

Scammers love gift cards, because they are hard to trace. Only buy them from the brand or an authorized seller, never pay a bill or a "government fee" with a gift card, and keep your receipt. Our gift cards come from the brands or their authorized distributors and are delivered by email.
